MICHIGAN AT LIPSCOMB | MARCH 10, 2017 (DH)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb baseball team saw its two-game win streak snapped with an 8-2 loss to No. 19 Michigan in the opening game of a Friday doubleheader at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium.

The second contest of the day did not go much better, as the Bisons failed to hang on to a ninth-inning lead before dropping a 4-3 decision.

“We had lots of opportunities today and we didn’t capitalize,” Lipscomb coach Jeff Forehand said. “That last game it seemed everything was rolling our way, but Michigan is a great team and they kept battling back.

“Sometimes baseball goes that way. You don’t have to like it every time, but hopefully this will help us grow.”

Lipscomb (8-6) will try to bounce back Sunday at 1 p.m. in the series finale against the Wolverines (11-3).

GAME ONE: Michigan 8, Lipscomb 2

Michigan needed just five hits and a stellar outing from southpaw Oliver Jaskie to take the victory in the series opener.

Jaskie and Lipscomb right-hander Brady Puckett were locked in a pitcher’s duel through the first six innings. Jaskie got the better of the battle, going 6.0 innings, surrendering one run and fanning a career high 11 hitters.

Puckett went 6.2 innings, gave up three earned runs with seven strikeouts. The 6-foot-9 junior suffered his second loss of the season, matching his season total from 2016.

After falling behind 2-0, Lipscomb finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Blake Thomas ripped a triple to center and later scored when Lee Solomon grounded into a fielder’s choice.

Lugbauer made it 4-1 when he blasted a two-run shot over the trees beyond the right field fence in the seventh, but Lipscomb’s Jake Perry answered with his first career home run in the bottom of the frame.
The Wolverines produced a sac fly and Slater crushed a three-run home run to put the game out of reach in the top of the ninth.
