The Lipscomb Bisons had the offense back in gear, but lost 10-9 in 10 innings Sunday afternoon to Florida Gulf Coast at Swanson Stadium in Fort Myers, Fla.

The game resembled a boxing match with each side making its punches before a winner finally emerged.

Florida Gulf Coast opened with a 2-0 first inning lead. The Bisons scored one run in the fifth. Florida Gulf Coast added one more in the sixth for a 3-1 lead.

The Bisons pulled within one run with another run in the eighth.

In the ninth the Bisons appeared to have taken control of the game. With one out Antonio Butler singled to second base. M.L. Williams tripled down the right field line to score Butler. Tyler Wilson singed through the left side to drive Williams across the plate. Wilson, the Atlantic Sun leader in stolen bases, stole second. Andrew Nickerson then singled through the left side to plate Wilson.

The Bisons 5-3 lead was a short-lived one. Florida Gulf Coast answered with two runs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings.

Once again the Bisons came back with a strong offensive effort scoring four runs. Branden Cadavid singled to left and Kurtis Robinson placed a bunt single. Logan Hostettler reached base on a fielder’s choice as Cadavid was thrown out at third. Butler walked. M.L. Williams singled through the right side to score Robinson. Wilson grounded out to second allowing Hostettler to score. Butler came home on a passed ball. Nickerson singled up the middle to score Williams.

Florida Gulf Coast came back with five runs to seal the win.

Justin Sanders had one double. Allen Bolden was credited with two. M.L. Williams tripled.

The Bisons pounded out 15 hits with M.L. Williams, Wilson, Nickerson, Bolden and Cadavid each getting two hits. Williams, Wilson and Nickerson also drove in two runs each.

Wilson has 21 stolen bases, tying him for second in the NCAA era for the Bisons for most base thefts in a season.

Florida Gulf Coast swept the Atlantic Sun series from the Bisons.
