The best thing about the Lipscomb Bisons 22-4 loss to Vanderbilt is that they don’t have long to dwell on it.

Wednesday afternoon at 3 they will be back in action in Murfreesboro against Middle Tennessee State.

The Bisons started out strong Tuesday afternoon at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium with two runs in the first inning.

With one out Tyler Wilson singled to left and then went to both second and third on two balk calls. Justin Sanders slammed a double to center to score Wilson. With two outs Branden Cadavid singled to right center to bring in Sanders.

It was the seventh double of the season for Sanders who led the Bisons with 22 last season. He entered the game tied for seventh in the Atlantic Sun in doubles.

Vanderbilt rallied with three runs in the top of the second.

The Bisons tied the game at 3-3. Tennyson Dodd singled through the left side to start the inning. He then stole second base. Logan Hostettler grounded out to second base with Dodd going to third on the throw. Brad Gooch grounded out to third base with Dodd scoring on the throw.

It would be the last run the Bisons would score until the ninth when John Newman stepped in as a pinch-hitter and blasted a solo home run to left field. it was the first home run of Newman's college career.

The Bisons used six pitchers in the game. They allowed 19 hits, including three home runs, and walked 11 batters. They also combined to hit three Vanderbilt batters.

Vanderbilt scored one run in the third, one run in the fourth, five in the sixth, three in the seventh, six in the eighth and three in the ninth.

The Bisons finished with eight hits. Dodd was the only Bisons player to have more than one hit, finishing two-for-two.

The Bisons are 5-7 overall. Vanderbilt is 10-4.
