The Bisons managed only four hits against Vanderbilt, but three of them were for extra bases.

Second baseman Brad Gooch hit his first home run of the season and center fielder Allen Bolden and first baseman Tennyson Dodd both had doubles as the Bisons fell 10-3 Tuesday afternoon at Hawkins Field. Designated hitter Justin Sanders singled to keep his hitting streak alive at eight games.

Vanderbilt opened with a run in the first inning. The solo home run by Gooch down the left field line and over the scoreboard tied the game. Vanderbilt answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Again the Bisons came back with one run in the fifth. Dodd opened the inning with a double down the left field line. He advanced to third on an infield out by Branden Cadavid. Dodd scored on a sacrifice fly to center field to score Dodd.

Vanderbilt scored two more run in the bottom of the fifth for a 5-2 lead.

In the sixth the Bisons scored their last run of the game. With two outs Bolden doubled down the right field line. Sanders singled to the shortstop to score Bolden.

Vanderbilt exploded for five runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Charles Williams started for the Bisons. He pitched five innings, scattering five hits and giving up five runs, four earned. He walked three and struck out one.

Matt Bowling pitched one inning in relief. He gave up three hits and five runs. He had two walks and one strikeout.

Josh Cotham also pitched one inning. He allowed one hit.

Jerry Young closed out the game with one inning.

The Bisons open Atlantic Sun competition this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Mercer in Macon, Ga.
