Bisons sweep Bradley in doubleheader
 

The Lipscomb Bisons beat Bradley 4-3 and 8-4 Sunday afternoon to sweep the three-game series at cold and windy Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium.

Justin Sanders had two triples and a double for the day, including three hits in the first game. Sanders has hit safely in all seven games this season. Tennyson Dodd had three hits in the second game, including a home run

In game one the Bisons needed eight innings to get the win. Both games were seven-innings.

In both games the Bisons had to come from behind for their wins.

In game two Bradley opened with a pair of runs in the first inning.

The Bisons responded with one run in the bottom of the first. Tyler Wilson reached base on an error by the third baseman. Wilson then stole both second and third. Allen Bolden walked. Justin Sanders grounded into a double play that allowed Wilson to score.

Bradley opened a 4-1 lead with two runs in the third.

The Bisons scored twice in the fourth inning. Sanders led off with a double to left center. Ryan Wilkins flied out. Dodd then hit his first collegiate home run over the left field fence. Dodd, who came into game two without a hit for the season, finished with three hits in the game.

The Bisons broke the game open in the fifth with five runs. Antonio Butler led off with a single to the shortstop and then stole second. Wilson walked and Bolden walked. Sanders reached base on a fielder’s choice with Butler scoring on an error. Wilkins singled to left and then advanced to second on an error by the left fielder. Both Wilson and Bolden scored. Sanders scored on the throwing error. Dodd singled through the left side to bring Wilkins home.

Josh Smith picked up his first win of the season for the Bisons. He threw six innings, scattering four hits and allowing four runs, all earned. He struck out nine and walked five

Martin Grude pitched the final inning. He gave up one hit.

In game one both Bradley and the Bisons opened with one run in the first.

Wilson reached base on a lead-off walk and then stole second. Sanders singled to left field to score Wilson.

Bradley jumped ahead with two runs in the third. The Bisons cut the lead to one run in the bottom of the third. Wilson tripled to center field. He scored on a triple to right field by Sanders.

In the sixth inning the Bisons tied the game with one run. Ryan Wilkins opened the inning with a walk and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Dodd grounded out to second which moved Wilkins to third. Branden Cadavid singled up the middle to bring Wilkins home.

In the eighth inning Sanders doubled in the game for the second time to lead off the inning. Wilkins and Dodd were intentionally walked to load the bases with no outs. Cadavid hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring Sanders home with the winning run.

The Bisons three triples in the game tripled their total for triples from last season.

In game one Brandon McClurg started on the mound for the Bisons. He pitched five innings and gave up four hits and three runs, all earned. He struck out seven and walked three. Matt Bowling threw one inning in relief, walking two and striking out two.

Kyle Tognazzini closed out the game and picked up the win, evening his record at 1-1. He pitched two scoreless innings. He did not allow a hit. He struck out four and walked one.

The Bisons, 3-4, head to Vanderbilt Tuesday for a 4 p.m. game. Bradley slipped to 2-3 with the losses.
